Written by Dianah Hayati A vivid, rosy-sunset paints the sky into a melted orange popsicle Stretching pine trees cast defined silhouettes Each pinecone and prick sharp Evident against the whimsical gradient background Like cotton candy The pastel colors melt on my tongue An ancient nostalgia It tastes like childhood Pacific waves collapse against the heavy, glistening sand Bubbly foam creeps forward unto calcified barnacles Cool, salty-air glides along my skin Crisp within its silkiness A reminiscence of youth A single blue heron stands still Unmoving. Unwavering against the changing tides. Perched with certainty Steadfast against the forceful current of constantly expiring moments Frozen in time Darkness rises and streaks of orange-white light stretch down across the water A glassy reflection of luminescence A scene straight out of a painting Atop of dark, mystic waters Opaque yet hollow Lights create the outline of civilization against the shadowed mountains Small specks travel through distant streets Who has driven on those roads? What stories did they hold? Every person like a tree Every ring an experience trapped in the unique grain No matter how painful, preserved and learnt from A dark, archaic mahogany The reality of time passing releases like ink Stains and spreads through the conscience The realization sets in Astringent to taste A desolate truth |
